What You’re Missing from Your Hypnobirthing Taster Sessions (and How to Fix It)

hypnobirthing tips Nov 09, 2025

If you’ve ever finished a free Hypnobirthing taster, trial class or masterclass and thought, “That was lovely… but no one booked!”- you’re not alone.

I’ve heard other brilliant hypnobirthing instructors tell me the same: “Taster sessions just don’t work for me.”

But here’s the reality…  it’s rarely that Hypnobirthing tasters don’t work. It’s that a few small but powerful ingredients are missing.

In this blog, I’ll share the biggest mistakes I see people make with their Hypnobirthing taster sessions and how you can tweak yours to turn them into genuine booking-boosters. So, get ready to plan your best ever Hypnobirthing taster session with these tips!

1/ Stop Cramming So Much In

In our early days, we all do it - try to squeeze an entire course into an hour.

I remember talking at lightning speed through breathing, hormones, affirmations and birth positions, thinking ‘the more I give, the more impressed they’ll be.’

But that’s not how the brain works.

When people leave your taster overwhelmed, they don’t think, “Wow, she’s amazing.”

They think, “I need to process all that before I book.” And guess what? Life happens, distractions appear and the moment passes.

Think of it like this… You’re not giving away the whole cake - you’re offering the first delicious slice.

My favourite phrase is- ‘Less is more’ and it definitely applies here.

Instead of a hundred light-bulb moments, focus on one or two.

For a hypnobirthing taster, that might be exploring why tension impacts birth not telling them every way to reduce it.

Let them leave curious!

2/ Follow Up Like You Mean It

Your taster doesn’t end when everyone says goodbye.

The follow-up is where conversions happen.

Please don’t expect tired, busy expectant parents to go home and remember to contact you. YOU need to stay front-of-mind.

Try this…

Same day: Thank them for attending and share one small, useful reminder.

Next day: Email them your booking link with an encouraging message.

A few days later: Send a warm check-in. “I loved hearing your thoughts after the taster. I’d love to see you on my next course. Here’s how to join...”

You’re not being pushy, you’re being helpful.

Every message is a reminder that you care and that booking is easy.

3/ Create Connection, Not a Lecture

A taster shouldn’t feel like a speech. It’s about connection- helping people experience your energy, not just your expertise.

When planning your session, ask yourself:

“How can I make this feel like a conversation, not a presentation?”

Maybe you start with a five-minute icebreaker:

“How do you want to feel during your birth?” and let them write it on a post-it.

Maybe you share a group reflection:

“What’s one thing you’ve heard about birth that you’d love to forget?”

These moments aren’t fillers- they’re gold. You get to display your kind, validating approach and show them what it feels like to work with you.

People remember how you made them feel far more that the specifics of what you say. And that feeling is what they’ll want more of when they decide to book your full course.

4/ Tell Stories That Stick

Stories are said to be around 20 times more memorable than facts alone- yet so many Hypnobirthing practitioners skip them.

When I used to run hypnobirthing tasters, I always shared my story - the fear, the overwhelm, my initial scepticism of Hypnobirthing, the moment I realised I could do it!

Every time I did, someone’s eyes would light up because they saw themselves in it.

You can tell your own story or a client’s story. Stories make people feel “That could be me.” And when they believe that they’re far more likely to invest.

 5/ Sprinkle in Social Proof

Social proof = proof your thing works. It’s not spammy. It’s reassuring.

You don’t need a slide full of testimonials; they’ll switch off, just weave them naturally into your storytelling.

For example:

“One of my clients came to me feeling completely overwhelmed, but after our first session she said she finally slept through the night.”

Or if you’re newer in business and haven’t got any client stories to share:

“Even Princess Kate has spoken about using hypnobirthing- it’s amazing how much calmer women feel when they understand their bodies.”

It’s gentle evidence that what you offer works for real people. Of course it does.

6/ Make It Easy to Take the Next Step

We live in the most distracted era ever, so don’t make people hunt for your booking links. Make it effortless.

-Add a QR code on your slide or handout that links directly to your booking page.

-Send a follow-up email or a text with that exact link- not just your homepage.

-If you offer 1:1 sessions, limit the options: “I’ve got three spaces this month-would you like me to reserve one?”

Every friction point reduces the chance they’ll act. Smooth the path and they’ll thank you for it.

7/ Be Intentional About How You Want Them to Feel

Before every taster, take five quiet minutes with a cuppa and ask yourself…

“How do I want people to feel when they leave?”

Maybe it’s Calm, Inspired, Excited or Nurtured.

Whatever it is, decide it before you walk in.

People rarely buy from what they know- they buy from how they feel.

If they leave your session thinking, “I feel lighter. I feel understood. I think I can do this,” you’ve already won.

A Quick Recap

If you only remember a few things from this post, let it be these:

1. Don’t overfill- Give fewer, more powerful lightbulb moments.

2. Follow up- Be the one who keeps the conversation going.

3. Connect- Make it personal, not polished.

4. Tell stories- They’re what people remember.

5. Share social proof- Let others’ experiences build trust.

6. Make it easy to book- Simplicity sells.

7. Decide the feeling- That’s the magic they’ll want more of.

When you weave these elements together, your taster sessions stop being a “nice free class” and starts becoming a powerful starting point for the best clients- the ones who genuinely want what you offer.

And remember, every taster you run is a lesson. Even the ones that flop a little (and we’ve all had those!). They are gold for refining your approach.

So, keep going lovely one.
