Once upon a birth - From Party Princess to Hypnobirthing Teacher

Uncategorized May 17, 2025

Think you have to be a midwife or a Hypnotherapist to become a Hypnobirthing Teacher? Holly proves this all wrong as she changes career from Elsa to Hypnobirthing instructor.

At Love Your Birth our students and graduates come from all different backgrounds and professions from engineers, beauty therapists, accountants to party princesses!

And guess what? They always bring transferable skills, even if they don't know they have any!

Holly Hay from Worcester was once a party princes, dressing up in glittering gowns and sparking tiaras but she has since swapped fairy tales for birth tales and become a successful Hypnobirthing Teacher, training with Love Your Birth.

Holly shares with us why she made the change, how it's working for her and the skills that she's been able to bring across.

A day in the life of a party princess:

Holly spent most weekends as various Disney princesses, mostly Elsa, entertaining children at their birthday parties or one-to-one visits at their homes.

She sang songs, organised games and activities and made birthday wishes for all the children. She says that it wasn't as simple as sticking on a dress and a wig though! She would stay in character for the entire event, which would range from 30 mins to an hour and a half, complete with accent and sometimes coloured contact lenses too.

Hosting 2-3 parties on both a Saturday and Sunday with quick changes in lay-bys on route, it was a very demanding job. Behind the scenes, Holly had to wrap A LOT of pass-the-parcels, restyle wigs, wash costumes, update her website and research all the facts about each princess as children asked a lot of questions.

"It was a great job but extremely tiring especially as I was a mum and couldn't just go home and rest."

Taking the leap from princess to Hypnobirthing Teacher, Holly tells us why she decided to leave the events life behind:

At the end of 2021, Holly closed her business when her marriage broke down and she found out that she was pregnant.  She tells us that "it was a very traumatic time of my life, and I could no longer deliver the service I was known for, so I made the very difficult decision to call it a day after three years."

After Holly's second daughter was born, she saw an advert on social media about becoming a Hypnobirthing Teacher and decided to see what it was all about.

"I had done Hypnobirthing during my second pregnancy and needed a job that could fit around life as a single mum. I took the leap and trained a few months later and qualified in June 2024"

"The best part about teaching Hypnobirthing is that I can work around the children and be my own boss"

Holly tells us that she loves not having to leave the house when teaching hypnobirthing as she does it in her living room. Holly goes on to say that she has always "been a helper and it is so rewarding being a part of my client's journey and seeing that Hypnobirthing has helped them as much as it helped me. It is the best job in the world!"

Believe it or not, there are some skills that Holly has brought over from her party princess days that help her now in her Hypnobirthing business.

Her knack for marketing and social media that she has picked up over the years, as well as her eye for detail when it comes to planning events and making her teaching space inviting for clients have helped her to establish her Hypnobirthing business.

Holly also asks every client to write her a review, as that's how she built a successful client base for her princess business so she's making sure she utilises this in her Hypnobirthing business.

Thank you Holly for sharing your story, it just goes to show that sometimes the most unexpected paths lead to the most meaningful work.

Here’s to new beginnings, deep breaths and the quiet kind of magic that changes lives, without having to pop on a big dress and coloured contacts!
