What Do Hypnobirthing Teachers Love Most About Their Job?

Uncategorized Aug 12, 2026

If you've ever wondered what it's really like to teach hypnobirthing, I asked the people who know best...

Love Your Birth graduates!

Those that have completed their Hypnobirthing Teacher training and are now supporting families. Some of them have even being doing this work for years.

Their answers gave me all the feels and they really are such a powerful reminder of why this work matters so very much.

Watching fear turn into confidence

One of the biggest themes that kept coming up was seeing the huge change in the people that do their courses. Those that arrive knowing very little about birth yet fearing so much, suddenly beaming with confidence! That’s powerful!

Melanie Garlsson said:

"Seeing fear & what ifs turn into calm confidence and hearing their baby has been born will never lose its sparkle."

Alex Kavanagh described it simply as:

"Seeing the transformation in mindset from the start of the course to the end."

And Tiffany Robinson brought to mind some of the fabulous women I’ve taught too...

"I love seeing women go from feeling like a deer in headlights to a powerful lioness taking control of their birth experience."

Couples often arrive feeling overwhelmed, anxious and unsure where to begin.

A few sessions later they're asking questions, researching to making informed decisions and genuinely believing in themselves.

Being part of one of life's biggest moments

Pregnancy and Birth is something families remember forever. It can be such a special time.

Melanie Garlsson summed it up so well:

"Being a hypnobirthing teacher is just so much more than a job. I love being a part of such an important chapter in someone's life - one they'll remember forever."

What other career allows you to play even a tiny role in one of the most significant days of someone's life?

It's an incredible privilege.

When everything suddenly clicks

Every Hypnobirthing Teacher knows that moment.

The looks of “Ahh I get it”. The penny drops.

Ashleigh Waggott described it perfectly:

"I love it when you see that light bulb moment on someone's face!"

Sometimes it's understanding how hormones work.

Sometimes it's realising that they have choices.

Sometimes it's discovering birth doesn't have to be like the movies.

Kelly Knighton-Wilson wrote:

"I love to see the moment when my clients realise birth isn't what they see on TV, that it can be peaceful and powerful."

Those moments are why teaching Hypnobirthing is so addictive!

Watching birth partners discover their role

One of the biggest surprises for many new hypnobirthing teachers is just how rewarding it is working with birth partners too.

Even those ones that arrive sceptical and are wondering why they’ve been dragged along!

Codie Louise Wright said:

"I love when the birth partner gets really into it. Especially getting to talk to them after the birth and hear about all the things they put into practise."

Watching someone who’s secretly terrified that they are going to feel like a spare part at the birth become confident that they are going to know what to do. Then hearing what an incredible advocate they were on the day never gets old!

Hearing the stories afterwards

The course may end before the baby arrives. But that’s often not the last time we hear from our clients.

When the messages start arriving. The birth announcements. The photos.

The emails saying...

"I did it!!!! Hypnobirthing is incredible."

That’s what it’s all about!

Louise Balm explained that one of her favourite moments is when parents leave an unexpected Google review saying “Hypnobirthing with me was the best thing they spent money on in the pregnancy. That Hypnobirthing got her through. That she had the birth she wanted. That her partner was an amazing support to her as they learnt what to do in the Hypnobirthing class. That she recommends that all mums-to-be do Hypnobirthing”

What incredible job satisfaction.

Building communities, not just businesses

One thing I loved reading was how many teachers talked about relationships and community.

Kelly Wrightson- Wilson said her favourite thing is the communities built around hypnobirthing.

Katie Hill shared that many of the mums from her courses still meet for walks together. “I love the connections that are formed on my group courses and friendships that are built. I see some of my mums weekly for a walk and catch up and it's so lovely to stay in touch and still be a part of their journey even after birth.”

Teaching hypnobirthing isn't simply delivering information to your clients. It’s not even just mindset transformation. You’re often introducing people who become lifelong friends. The village that they need so much at this transformational time in their lives.

Growing alongside your clients

When I read what Heather said, I absolutely agreed and yet it also made me think about the Hypnobirthing Teachers themselves.

When women train as Hypnobirthing teachers, they don’t just get a new skill- it changes them as people too. Heather Milne wrote:

"I've watched women grow in confidence, excitement and finding their voice along the way. It's truly transformational and I'm constantly amazed, proud and inspired by them."

We see this in our Hypnobirthing clients and maybe we also get to see this in ourselves too.
